One of the major sources
of support forThe
Griot Museum of Black History and Cultureis
membership inThe
Griot’s “Culture Keeper Society.”The
volunteer support of this organization is the life ofThe
Griot. There are many opportunities to support our mission
by becoming a “Culture Keeper” as a member and enhance your
financial contribution with commitment of your time, talent and
expertise, whether on special projects, or on a regular basis.
Volunteers help with exhibitions, special events, cataloguing,
mailing, and serve as docents.
YourGriotMuseum
membership will help support special exhibits, education
programs, performing arts events, public lectures and workshops,
acquisition, conservation, expansion of our collections, and our
Heritage Internship Program (HIP), our heritage preservation
program for youth.
Volunteers Help with Landscaping
Volunteers led by Peggy Neely-Harris created a new landscape for The Griot. Organizations lending their “green thumbs” to the landscaping project include the “Be Hatittudes,” Chapter of the Red Hat Society, Americorps volunteers and youth from Central Baptist Church’s “Kilalo: The Rites of Passage in the Village.” Cedric Adams of Adam's Landscaping donated a half ton of dirt, and James D. Williams of Word of Mouth Landscaping hauled the dirt to The Griot. Peggy Neeley-Harris is an actress and drama teacher. Her husband Michael is an engineer. For two years now, the Harrises have been donating and nurturing the Griot’s plants and flowers. They donated plants and flowers for this year’s project. Thanks!
